Artist's
Statement As a
rule, I don’t like or write artist statements. Is it
because I don’t have that much to say? Maybe. Mostly I
think art should stand on its own. A picture, well crafted
with color and texture should speak to you. A picture
should be worth a thousand words.
But what about the
underlying meaning, the context, the inside scoop? I
wouldn’t want to ruin it for you; your insight may very
well be far more insightful and interesting than mine.
Things shouldn’t always be so readily apparent. Maybe
you should not see everything after just one viewing.
In closing, I would
like to say that I thoroughly love painting. And if I
could be so lucky to have you enjoy the painting half as
much, let me be the first to congratulate you on your
excellent taste!

the development of [art] is involved around the marketing
[of art]... it is the mechanism that makes the artist able
to survive and produce." John McPhee
